Why does BlackStor deliver higher IOPS than Ceph?

The IOPS advantage comes from architectural differences. Ceph is a distributed storage system designed for flexibility and scale-out. Every I/O operation traverses Ceph's CRUSH placement algorithm, potentially crosses network boundaries for replication, and passes through multiple software layers (BlueStore, OSD daemon, RADOS). This architecture is excellent for large-scale distributed deployments but introduces overhead for each I/O operation.

BlackStor takes a different approach. It is purpose-built for block storage, optimized for local NVMe SSD access paths, and minimizes the software layers between the application and the storage medium.
